POTC - Ad spread sheet by chibi-j POTC - Ad spread sheet by chibi-j
This is a fanart for Pirates of the Caribbean, but I wanted to express two ideas with this peice of work. One was to get a comic feel with 2 frames that expressed the story, and the other was to make it a kind of one sheet advertisement for the film.

This was during a time when I was experimenting with screentone, which takes a lot of precision, time and patience! But I really like the outcome (it`s a shame that screentone-ing is very hard to capture properly with a scanner)

8/2003, inked lines, Letraset screentone, craft knife (text and boarder added in PhotoShop)

Very cool fan art both you and you sister are great inspirations! I don't get the opportunity to use it much but I know Photoshop has decent filters for screens. You used them well here. :)

nice drawing and toning. I really like the light and dak contrasts you got with Barbosa and the etched bits around the candles. That makes such an awesome effect^^

Eh? I don't remember you screentoning this! Hm. Or maybe I'm getting confused between this and another picture. Anyway, it considerably rocks. I think her face looks a little off though. That's the only crit I have to make. The rest is wonderful, and I'm always impressed at the fact that you spend so much energy on screentoning. You've rendered the lighting amazingly, especially in the sky.
I'd love it f you could do one page of our X-Men comic like this *hint, hint* ;)

Ah, this is SWEET! I really like it, but Elizabeth does look off. Otherwise, good character portrayal, good lighting. Nice piece of work.

thanx! Screentone is...the kind of stuff that manga artists use to shade their comics in black/white tones. It come in clear plastic sticker like sheets that have the pattern printed on it. This is the time consuming bit, U have to cut out the shapes in the plastic and then stick it onto ur picture...painstaking but rewarding. I've always loved the grayscale toning in mangas.

Sorry, this is a really late reply, but I only just read the above comment and had to add in my part. In Japan you can actually buy computer programs that have screentone brushes, so manga artists use the program rather than cutting out screentone manually. Maybe you can get it in the US or here, I haven't actually checked. :)
